Which age group is appropriate for my child at the time of registration?
Determining Your Player's Age for Program Registration
BYSA recognizes player ages in accordance with US Youth Soccer and the Connecticut Junior Soccer Association.
Recreation Program:
Player age is recognized as their age as of December 31st of the calendar year of the program offering. Examples:
- Spring Season:
- player is three years old at the time of the Spring registration (typically the preceding fall)
- player turns four in September of the calendar year of the Spring season
- register for MiniKickers: Ages 4 - 5
- Fall Season:
- player is seven years old at the time of the Fall registration (typically the preceding summer)
- player will be eight in September of the calendar year of the Fall season
- register for Juniors: Ages8 - 9
Travel Program:
- Travel program eligibility is for two seasons beginning with in the Fall of one calendar year ending in the Spring of the following calendar year.
- Player age is officially recognized as their age at the end of the calendar year in which the Spring season ends
- A players age group is found by subtracting the players birth year from the Spring season calendar year. Therefore: [age group] = [spring season calendar year] minus [player birth year]
